Bring Me The Horizon

BMTH, during their Count Your Blessings era
and their early years

Bring Me the Horizon are a British metalcore band from Sheffield, Yorkshire, who formed in 2004. Bring Me the Horizon constits of Oliver Sykes as the lead vocalist, lead guitarist Lee Malia, rhythm guitarist Jona Weinhofen, bassist Matt Kean and drummer Matt Nicholls. They are currently signed to Visible Noise Records in the UK, Epitaph Records in the US and to Shock Records in Australia. Their music has been said to be influenced diversely by grindcore, death metal and emo, and their earlier work is noted for its strong influence from American metalcore bands. They have released three studio albums and one extended play.

They released their debut album Count Your Blessings on 30 October 2006. Their second album, Suicide Season was released 29 September 2008 with a two disc special edition version titled: Suicide Season: Cut Up!, featuring a second disc of electronic and dubstep remixes of tracks featured on Suicide Season. Prior to the release of the special edition of Suicide Season, founding rhythm guitarist Curtis Ward left the band due musical differences and commitment issues. He was later replaced with Jona Weinhofen. Their third studio albumThere Is a Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let's Keep It a Secret was released 4 October 2010.

2004's This Is What The Edge Of Your Seat Was Made For EP

The band formed in March 2004 after all the founding members, who had all been a part of several local and separately defunct bands, had decided to come together and form a new band. In the months after there formation Bring Me the horizon created a demo album, titled: "Bedroom Sessions". Their name is derived from the last line of the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, in which Captain Jack Sparrow says "Now... Bring me that horizon."

Bring Me the Horizon signed to Thirty Days of Night Records in 2004. Being the first band to sign to the label. Bring Me the Horizon released their first Extended Play This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For on 2 October 2004. The EP was re-release 30 January 2005 through Visible Noise. The re-release of the EP gained the band a significant amount of attention, peaking at 41 on the UK album charts.

2006's Count Your Blessings

They released their debut album Count Your Blessings in October 2006 in the United Kingdom and in August 2007 in the United States. Across late November and December 2006 Bring Me the Horizon accompanied Lostprophets and The Blackout in a UK tour. In January 2007 Bring Me the horizon replaced Bury Your Dead on Killswitch Engage's European headline tour. The slot as a support was offered as Bury Your Dead withdrew from the tour because of there vocalist, Mat Bruso, leaving the band. While on tour in the UK allegations were made against vocalist Oliver Sykes that he urinated upon a female fan after a gig at Nottingham Rock City. Sykes was subsequently charged with urinating on the fan. Online music zine Drowned In Sound claimed that Bring Me The Horizon were banned from Nottingham Rock City, a claim that turned out to be false when the band subsequently played Nottingham Rock City on 1 December 2007. All charges against Sykes were later dropped.

2008's Suicide Season

Bring Me the Horizon recorded their second studio album Suicide Season in Sweden with Fredrik Nordström. It was promoted viraly in the weeks following up to it's release with the tagline "September is Suicide Season". In promotion of the new material from Suicide Season the band embarked on their first headline tour of the United States, as well as appearing in the 2008 Warped Tour. In May 2008 Bring Me the Horizon was the main supporting band on I Killed The Prom Queen's farewell tour in Australia with The Ghost Inside and The Red Shore as supports. Although the tour was short and was only 9 days long it sold out rapidly. On 18 September 2008 Suicide season was released in the United States on Epitaph and 29 September in Europe through Visible Noise.

In 2009 Bring Me the Horizon was at 2009 Kerrang! Tour alongside Black Tide, Dir en grey, In Case of Fire and Mindless Self Indulgence. They also joined Thursday, Cancer Bats, Four Year Strong and Pierce the Veil on the North American leg of Taste of Chaos 2009 across February to April. In March 2009 during the Taste of Chaos tour, guitarist Curtis Ward left the band. Australian guitarist Jona Weinhofen, formerly of Bleeding Through andI Killed The Prom Queen, temporarily replaced Curtis before being asked to join the group on a permanent basis. A video of a staged fight between Oliver Sykes and Architects' lead singer Sam Carter, filmed in October 2009 and uploaded to YouTube, caused some Bring Me the Horizon fans to send hate mail to Carter. Carter later made it clear in an interview with Kerrang! that the whole thing was a joke, as did Sykes.

2008's Suicide Season : Cut Up!

In November 2009 Bring Me the Horizon released a remixed version of Suicide Season, titled Suicide Season: Cut Up!. Musicians and producers featured on the album include Ben Weinman, Sonny Moore, L’Amour La Morgue, Utah Saints and Shawn Crahan. That year Sykes guested on theAdmiral's Arms song "Dawn of the New Age", which appeared on the EP "Stories Are Told", released in November 2009.

2010's There Is A Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It.
There Is A Heaven, Let's Keep It A Secret

The band's third album and first with their new rhythm guitarist Jona Weinhofen, titled: There Is a Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let's Keep It a Secret was released 4 October 2010 and debuted at number 17 on the Billboard 200 in the US, number 13 on the UK Album Chart, and number 1 on the Australian Albums Chart, the UK Rock Chart and the UK Indie Chart. Despite reaching number 1 in Australia, the album's sales of 3,600 they gained to get there, is the lowest in the history of the ARIA charts. In 2010 members of Bring Me the Horizon (Jona Weinhofen, Lee Malia and Oli Sykes) guested on This One's For You by Australian rapcore band Deez Nuts (Sykes providing vocals on "If You Don't Know Now You Know"). Five singles total were released from the album including: It Never Ends, Anthem, Blessed with a Curse, Visions, and Alligator Blood, with music videos included for each of the songs. In the immediate promotion of the album the band embarked on a headline tour in intimate venues across the United Kingdom with support from Cancer Bats and Tek-one.

& Bleeding Through alumni Jona Weinhofen (second from left).

In April 2011 Bring me the Horizon started a European tour, starting in the United Kingdom they toured with Parkway Drive and Architects as main support bands; with The Devil Wears Prada as the opening support for the UK and Dubstep group Tek-one opening for the remainder of Continental Europe. The tour gain much publicity, it's classed as their biggest headline tour ever and even being stated as the "tour of the year" by Rock Sound. The tour however was not without it's hinderences. on 28 April, Matt Nicholls broke his Arm whilst playing football with members of Bring Me the Horizon, Parkway Drive and Architecs members, and instead of canceling the tour Architects' drummer Dan Searle filled in as the drummer, this meant that Bring Me the Horizon's setlist was halved in length. An also on 28 April at the Bristol O2 Academy ,there was a power cut before Parkway Drive's set. Bring Me the Horizon as a reaction to the power cut decided to do a short 4 track acoustic set featuring: The Sadness Will Never End , It Never Ends, Suicide Season and Chelsea Smile. The tour was extended with a North American leg from 31 August to 4 October maintaing Parkway Drive and Architects and including Deez Nuts onto the line up. On 23 August, they released the fourth music video and single, "Visions." On October 31st, Halloween, the next music video for the song "Alligator Blood" was released.

On 13 October 2011 It was announced that Bring Me the Horizon was nominated for three Independent Music Awards. In the three categories Best Live Act, Independent Breakthrough Of Year and Hardest Working Band Or Artist. In December 2011 Machine Head completed an arena tour across europe with Bring Me the Horizon as the main support band as well as Devil Driver and Darkest Hour as supports. Oliver Sykes has stated that these will be the last European dates they'll do before they start the writing and the recording of their fourth album. Bring Me the Horizon's presense on the tour was met with mixed reception from fans, Dave Bowes of The Fly with a live review of their performance at SECC in Glasgow as "simply in the wrong place at the wrong time but they choose to be the better men..." Clearly, there is no stopping at all for Bring Me The Horizon in the future...

Dear Old Friend

It’s been a while since I've seen you. It’s also been a very long time since we’ve seen each other in person. It’s been a very, very long time since we’ve actually talked with each other. I guess I just wanted you to know that I still miss you, even though it’s been a year now since I’ve last seen you. I nearly forgot about you once, when you weren’t around, but I never really have forgotten about you. When we were young, you wanted me to still remember you, and I've kept that promise.
Now, it seems that you’ve moved on. You’ve found someone who loves you. That’s great. I’m really happy for you, truly. I guess you’ve always had so many lovers before. They’ve all walked in and out of your life so many times before. I’m not even sure if you still remember any of them! I’m not one of them, I know. I’ve never walked into your life and I have never walked out of your life. I’m just the guy on the sidelines, watching other guys trying their luck with you. I’m not one of them. I’m just an old friend of yours, who has never forgotten about you, the one who still cares, misses and still loves you.
I’ve always wondered if you ever missed me before, especially during the holidays. I’ve always wondered if you ever think about me sometimes. Well, clearly, I still think of you from time to time. You were still my only one true crush. I’ve had crushes before you and after you, but none of them ever had that special something that you’ve always had. We were never together and sometimes I wished that we were.
I’m sorry if I was imperfect to you and I’m sorry for the times I’ve hurt you and made you cry. I truly am sorry. I just want you to know that I still remember those sweet and bittersweet memories that happened to the both of us. It’s been years now but I still remember everything that has happened. I will never forget any of it, and most importantly, I will never forget you. You’ve clearly found another, who seems to love you as much as I did. Unlike you, I haven’t found that someone. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I’m still in love with you, even though you’re with someone else now.
Sometimes, I just wish I could forget about you but I just can’t. You’re always there in my head, in my mind, in my heart. I once cried because of you. I’ve stopped crying now, and I’m still trying to hold back my tears. It sounds pathetic, I know, but I just can’t help it. I’m just so helpless when I remember you. I wonder where you are now. No matter where you are or what you are doing now, I wish you all the best and good luck. The best of luck to the both of you and may you two be happy together. We may never see each other ever again, but that’s alright. I’m just happy and grateful that you’ve always been a very good friend to me. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be alright. I just want you to know that I’m the one who has always loved you. Thank you... for the memories…

Comeback Kid

Comeback Kid is a Canadian hardcore band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Formed in 2002, the band is currently signed to Facedown Records. Their name comes from a headline in a newspaper about hockey player, Mario Lemieux coming back to the NHL.[1] The band was formed in 2002 by Andrew Neufeld and Jeremy Hiebert who were both members of the band Figure Four, which is currently on hiatus. They were joined by their friends Scott Wade and Kyle Profeta, but CBK was originally intended only to be a side project.[2] Their initial popularity was mainly due to word of mouth within the hardcore scene.

The band released Turn It Around on Facedown Records in 2003 before moving to Smallman Records in Canada and Victory Records in the rest of the world the following year. In July 2004 Comeback Kid and Figure Four both performed New Jersey. The played on day 2,[3]Saturday the 24th of July.

In February 2005 Comeback Kid released their second album, "Wake the Dead". After some long tours, and Wade's departure from the band, leading to Neufeld becoming the band's vocalist, the band began recording their third album "Broadcasting". After the album's release bass player Kevin Call left the band, issuing a statement regarding leaving Comeback Kid.

"Life has called on me to go in a different direction - one that no longer involves playing bass guitar in Comeback Kid. These past few years has ever played a part in this band - whether you did a stage dive, bought a record, or put forth effort of the dudes the best of luck. We will be playing what will be my last shows in mid-December, including a show in my hometown of Minneapolis. So keep an eye out for those. Thanks. See you around."

In 2008 A CD/DVD was released called "Through The Noise" Which is a line from the song "Industry Standards" off of "Broadcasting..." . The Canadian "Through The Noise" tour followed the release of CD/DVD. It featured bands Bane, Misery Signals, Shai Hulud, Grave Maker, and Outbreak. Long Live Comeback Kid!

This Is Hell

This Is Hell are a Long Island, New York-based hardcore band. The band is known for extensive touring and high energy concerts. To date, the band has released three studio albums, and four EPs. This Is Hell formed in June 2004 when Long Island musicians and members of The Backup Plan, Scraps and Heart Attacks, and Subterfuge got together after their previous bands broke up. The name of the band was originally the title of an Elvis Costello song. The band quickly released a four song self titled demo EP which was later pressed onto vinyl via Boston label Run for Cover Records & in Europe via Broken Glasses Records. Pressings of the EP sold out quickly and was very well received. The demo gained enough popularity to later be reissued. In support of this demo, the band played over 200 live shows in one year. After the release of their demo and in between touring, the band started working on their next release, a self titled EP. It was released on May 16, 2005 on State of Mind Records. Later that year, the band caught the attention of hardcore punk record label Trustkill Records. The president of Trustkill, Josh Grabelle, stated:
                                                                                                              —Josh Grabelle

The band signed to Trustkill shortly after that, and began to work on their debut album Sundowning to be released on their new label. In May 2006 the album was released and received a very warm reception. Larger magazines including Alternative Press, Metal Hammer, and Rock Sound started featuring the small time Long Island band, creating a rise in popularity. Their slow rise to fame was also due to their non-stop touring. In 2006 and 2007, This Is Hell participated in the Sounds of the Underground tour which rivaled Ozzfest. In this tour they played alongside As I Lay Dying, Trivium, In Flames, GWAR, Shadows Fall, Every Time I Die and others. In 2006 they were invited to play in theTaste of Chaos tour[4] and the Saints & Sinners Festival. During this time This Is Hell also toured with Comeback Kid, Endwell, It Dies Today, Parkway Drive, Cancer Bats, Glassjaw,Lostprophets, Bayside and several others.[3]

In April 2006, This Is Hell members Rick Jimenez and Dan Bourke were interested in starting a side project. The two started recruiting local hardcore punk musicians from Long Island and soon formed Soldiers. The band went on to independently release The Tombstone EP, and a full length album, The End of Days, through Trustkill Records. Soldiers has played live with This Is Hell on a few tours. For these shows, Jimenez and Bourke would play in both bands each night.

After the amicable departure of bassist/lyricist Jeff Tiu and the parting of ways with guitarist Joe Oslin, Johnny Moore (ex-Subterfuge, ex-Asternaut) took over on bass as well as becoming the main lyricist, and Chris Reynolds took over second guitar duties. Jeff Tiu went on to front lihc band Ice Age with Chris Mazella (ex-Subterfuge, current Soldiers) on guitar.

Before the close of 2007, This Is Hell released two more EPs exclusively on 7" vinyl records. The first EP, titled Cripplers featured cover songs, unreleased songs, and one brand new song. The new song called "Infected" was later found on the band's second studio album, but was added to this EP to give fans a taste before the release of the new album. The second EP was a split record with Cancer Bats. This EP featured one new song from each band and one cover of the other band. After several years of non stop touring with larger bands on festival tours, and smaller bands on underground tours, This Is Hell gathered much inspiration for their second studio album titled Misfortunes. With this album, the band created a new more aggressive and raw sound not found on previous efforts. Only a few days after the release the band embarked on their first headlining tour, which included a full US tour followed by a small European tour. After the Euro tour, Chris Reynolds left the band to pursue his project Kill The Frontman and returned to life in upstate NY. The band did a short US/Canadian tour, now as a 4 piece, with Blacklisted, although Blacklisted didn't make it across the border into Canada.

In October, a small "early press" of the This is Hell/Nightmare of You split 7" from Run For Cover Records was released. From the fall of 08-early winter of 09, This is Hell did more touring throughout the US with bands of all genres. Oct/Nov with Four Year Strong, I Am The Avalanche & A Loss For Words. November with Gravemaker. December with Evergreen Terrace, Four Letter Lie & Casey Jones. Jan/Feb with Funeral For A Friend, The Sleeping & Emarosa. After the last mentioned tour, Dan Bourke left the band and joined fellow long island group, Stray From The Path. Dennis Wilson took over on drums for a Europe headlining tour with Dead Swans and The Blackout Argument. This Is Hell have mutually split with their label, Trustkill Records, and are now on Rise Records.[6] They released an EP through Think Fast! Records in 2009 called Warbirds. The EP featured covers and new songs, some of which would later be a part of their following full length. This Is Hell released their third studio album Weight of the World on June 8, 2010 through Rise Records.

For me, these guys are a really amazing band. They're hardworking, tours constantly and never ceases to amaze me. Their latest release, Black Mass is out now. Check them out, you're gonna love them. Trust me.

Bands & Haters

I've been a true music fan since my early teenage years. Before that, I was listening to a lot of punk and a bit of indie, I think I was about 10 or something. As I get older, my musical taste expands, broadens and diversify as I get into more bands and more different type of genres. But that's not what I wanna talk about right now. What I do wanna talk about is the relationship between bands and their haters.
For those of you who have no idea what a 'hater' is, I'll explain. There's no real definition of 'haters' found in Wikipedia due to the fact that the word could mean anything or point to anything or anyone. I'm talking about haters within the music scene. These haters, aren't exactly music haters, quite the opposite actually. They are avid listeners to music in general, defining whatever kind of music they listen to. They only have one certain characteristic that makes them stand out of the rest of the music-loving crowd; THEIR HATRED FOR CERTAIN BANDS, ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS.
Here's an example; there's this super-hot band right, they're growing popular with every album release, they tour extensively in support of each of their albums which at the same time gaining them international recognition and hype. That band are on top of the world, and yet there are those who will always get out of their own way to cut that band down. Their tactics include the usual rumor-spreading, talking crap online about said band and etc...etc... Sometimes, they'd go to that band's show and taunt them and throwing stuff at them onstage (trust me, I've seen this shit happen a lot at shows). And yet, these music 'outlaws' are still on the run and causing inter-band conflicts and situations, which are quite rare and still quite possible.
Most of the bands that I truly like a lot (Bring Me The Horizon, A Day To Remember, Four Year Strong, The Devil Wears Prada etc...) are suffering from these diseases, most haters target new and upcoming bands. Yet, most bands just wade through these haters and there are also bands who take their haters as inspiration, like A Day To Remember. There are a lot of reasons to why the haters keep on hating. Sometimes, it's due to the fact that some bands look bloody awful (Escape The Fate, Black Veil Brides), and sometimes it's due to the fact that that band is very successful. No matter what, each new band has gotta at least have a group of dudes hating on their music, their image and their ethics.
I can't really explain further upon this matter because It's a diverse type of thing, a lot of reasons, factors and whatnot. I just wrote this blog trying to explain what I know about these haters (maybe there are other blogs that explain a lot more on the subject). I just find it very unbelievable sometimes that these haters spread their hate and rumors about a certain band or artist, not to mention annoying. Every time I read a music magazine, especially in the letter sections, I would accidentally stumble upon a letter with sayings like, "oh that band sucks ass", or "oh  I hate them so much! They look like fags!" by some tough guy dude who thinks his musical taste are far greater than others when said dude only listens to some lame-ass hair metal or glam metal. Seriously, grow up! Only little kids tend to do the whole 'name-calling thing'. Most of the bands that I'm into are actually good musicians (if not good, then they're great). Some of them are very successful because all their hard work and all the heart they've put into their craft. It's their passion. Yet, no matter how much cotton bud we stuff into our ears, the haters will always be there to ruin and bitter our moods. That's why we must strengthen our love for our beloved bands.
